With COVID cases on the rise once again as a result of the second wave of the novel coronavirus, vaccination remains critical and urgent. As a result, medical officials and health departments are frantically trying to get people vaccinated. But 24 hospitals are yet to begin the immunisation campaign. Many of them have also expressed dissatisfaction with the civic body’s lack of vaccine shots.
Thus, miscommunication during the pandemic over the availability of life-saving COVID drugs to shortcomings in bed management is still an issue, as at least 24 private hospitals within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits were not even told by civic body officials to begin the vaccination programme, despite the Union government allowing them to begin the vaccination programme 12 days ago.
On March 25, the PMC health department sent a comprehensive letter to the hospitals to resolve the issue (Thursday). To immunise beneficiaries against COVID, the government has licenced private hospitals as CVCs, it said. CVCs should be initiated in your hospital, and beneficiaries should be immunised. The letter further read, However, it was discovered yesterday (March 24) that vaccination had not begun at your hospital. If your hospital’s COVID immunisation programme has not yet begun, please let us know the reason as soon as possible.
However, according to hospitals, they were prepared to launch the immunisation campaign, but poor communication from PMC caused an unwanted delay.
On Friday (March 26), the number of new COVID-19 cases in Pune reached 7,090, adding to the health officials’ woes.
