Below-normal night temperatures were likely in parts of Maharashtra, barring central Maharashtra, starting November 3, as per an extended range forecast by IMD released on Thursday.
Night temperatures are, however, likely to be on the higher side in Pune, making the city miss the usual November cold for some days.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting division, IMD-Pune, told TOI, “From November 3 to November 9, the night temperatures are likely to be marginally above normal over south central as well as the northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune.
In the week after November 9, north central Madhya Maharashtra would experience night temperature that would be 1 to 2 notches above normal.”
From November 3 to November 9, night temperatures would be marginally below normal in other parts of the state. Similarly, during the November 10-16 week, other parts of the state will experience marginally “below-normal” minimum temperatures. Though lower minimums are expected in most parts of state, the same may not be the case for Pune.
Maximum temperatures during the current week are likely to be 2-3oC below normal, while they may be marginally below normal during the week that follows. “Rainfall chances in most of Maharashtra during these two weeks are nil, except in extreme south Maharashtra . The rain activity is also likely to be light at isolated places in these locations,” Kashyapi said.
Parts of Maharashtra are currently under the influence of easterly waves, that is winds blowing from the Bay of Bengal. The waves are also carrying some moisture. These winds are moderately strong and also a reason why parts of south Peninsula are likely to get good rainfall in the coming days.
“The presence of moisture in south-central Maharashtra will cause some clouding (3-4 okta clouds) in parts of the state. This is one reason why minimum temperature in some locations, including Pune city, will show a rising tendency. Maximum temperatures would be on the lower side,” Kashyapi said.
