Pune: Marking the occasion of World Heart Day, Manipal Hospital, Baner, Pune today organizes a walkathon to encourage people to keep moving for a healthy heart. The 3 km walkathon began at 7:00 am from Manipal Hospital, Baner. The walkathon was flagged off by Dr. Abhijit Joshi, HOD & Consultant Cardiology, and Dr. Akshay Kashid, Consultant Cardiology. More than 500 people participated in this walkathon, including patients who have recovered from heart conditions, doctors, hospital employees, and members of the local community.
Addressing the participants during this walkathon, Dr. Abhijit Joshi, HOD and Consultant – Cardiology, Manipal Hospital, Baner, said, “Every year, we observe World Heart Day to highlight the significance of caring for our own as well as the hearts of others. The active participation of our patients, neighborhood residents, and doctors has only proved how starting our days with a walk and taking small but simple actions can make a difference in our overall well-being and help us live better lives.”
Flagging off the walkathon, Anand Mote, Cluster Director, Manipal Hospital, Baner said, “At Manipal Hospital, we are committed to raising awareness among people and motivating them to take control of their heart health before complications arise. The aim of this walkathon was not only to inspire people but also encourage them to take an action towards better heart health and reducing the burden of heart disease in our community.”
The walkathon was followed by Zumba session, fun activities & sessions with physiotherapists and dieticians on tips for maintaining heart health through exercise and nutrition.
