Pune: Pune will witness country’s first ‘Indian Doctors Olympics with a Total of 11 sports disciplines in team and individual events on cards from November 30 to December 3 at various venues across the city.
The Young Doctors League (YDL) has organized the country’s first ‘Indian Doctors Olympics’ in Pune with a total of more than 1000 doctor participants expected to take part in a total of 11 sports disciplines in team and individual sports.
Addressing a press conference the Chairman of the ‘Indian Doctors Olympics’ (IDL) Committee Dr. Nachiket Mahindrakar and Secretary Dr. Ameet Dravid said that, Indian Doctor Olympics has been planned as a sporting extravaaganza to unite doctors from all corners of the country in a spirit of friendly competition and wellness. It aims to be a platform where medical professionals would come together to showcase their athletic prowess, foster camaraderie, and promote the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. This event aims to celebrate the remarkable dedication and skills of doctors while emphasizing the vital role of sports in maintaining physical and mental well-being.
This Indian Doctors Olympic competition will showcase the skills, dedication, and qualities of doctors in various team and individual sports. Apart from this, such sports competition is extremely important to maintain the balance of physical and mental health, IDO committee member Dr. Nitin Gadkari and Dr. Sandeep Patil explained.
The organizing committee has been formed under the guidance of Dr. Nachiket Mahindrakar, Chairman and Dr. Ameet Dravid, Secretary for proper planning of the competition. In this committee Dr. Nitin Gadkari, Dr. Sandeep Patil, Dr. Rahul Patil, Dr. Ankush Bhandari, Dr. Vaibhav Dudhat and team of more than 200 doctors will oversee the management of the competition. In this, different responsibilities like team and individual sport planning, cultural program responsibility, social media and information department, travel and hotel, hospitality management are being taken care of by various committees.
The matches of the ‘Indian Doctors Olympics’ will be held at various venues like Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Deccan Gymkhana Club, Vision Academy ground Sinhagad road, Scale up academy ground Warje, DSK Star cricket academy ground Dhayari and Shinde High School Sahakarnagar.
Tennis, Table Tennis, Carrom and Badminton events will be held in Men’s Singles and Doubles, Women’s Singles and Doubles and Mixed Doubles Group. In athletics, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, relay race, long jump, shot put will be held for men and women. In swimming, women’s and men’s freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke individual and relay events will be held. These competitions will be held in the age group category of below 35 years, 35 to below 50 years, 50 to 60 years and above 60 years.
In the team events, women and men’s tennis ball cricket, 6-a-side men’s box football, men’s volleyball, women’s throw ball will be organized.
Doctor sportsmen from various states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal and Tamilnadu are expected to take part the Doctors’ Olympics., Dr. Ameet Dravid said.
