Late drama helps CMS Falcons pip Razorbacks to title

Pune: Shibu Sunny scored two late goals on Saturday to help CMS Falcons ‘A’ defeat Razorbacks 4-2 in the final of the Freedom Cup 2022 football tournament held at Bavdhan.

CMS Falcons scored in the very first minute through Sahil Bhokare but goals from Ishan Dey and Gaurav Swaminathan gave Razorbacks the advantage. Midfielder Rugved Yeole then equalised for CMS Falcons three minutes before half-time to bring the scores to 2-2 at the break.

The second half saw both teams get a red card each – goalscorer Bhokare sent off for arguing with the referee while Razorbacks goalkeeper Atharva Kulkarni committed a foul near his penalty box. As the game was edging towards a penalty shootout, forward Shibu scored twice in two minutes to hand CMS Falcons the win and the trophy.

In the first game of the day, Pacific FC overcame Akatsuki in a tie-breaker to clinch the 40+ age category title after the game ended 0-0 in regulation time.

The bronze medal match was a one-sided affair as Khadki Youngsters defeated Fatima XI 10-1.
