Pune: In a significant move towards enhancing urban greenery, the Pune Chapter of Roundtable India, in association with Anandvan Foundation, has undertaken an ambitious urban forestation project. The initiative saw the planting of trees across a 10,000 square feet area in the heart of the city at Wanowrie. The project, which cost one lakh rupees, was funded through internal fundraising efforts involving corporate and individual donors.
With the generous donations received, the Anandvan Foundation was able to secure land from forest officials, cordon off the designated area, and prepare it for planting. The foundation meticulously dug pits and planted the trees, ensuring a strong start for the urban forest.
A notable aspect of this initiative is the foundation’s commitment to the care and maintenance of the trees for the first year. This initial nurturing period is crucial for the trees to become self-sustaining and thrive independently thereafter.
The driving ideology behind this project is not just about creating a green space for the present but is a forward-looking effort aimed at benefiting future generations. “The ideology is not to create something for us, but for our kids and our grandchildren,” remarked one of the organizers.
The tree planting event was honored by the presence of prominent figures, including National President Robin Agarwala, Area Chairman Tarang Shah, Chairman PMRT 65 Deepak Agarwal, and Chairperson PMLC53 Lavina Jain.
Reflecting on the significance of the initiative, Chairman Deepak Agarwal stated, “Nature is not a place to visit, it is home,” encapsulating the essence of their mission to create a sustainable and greener urban environment.
