Sports teaches us to accept defeat; says Army Sports Institute commandant Devraj Gill

Pune: Sports is something that attracts everyone and helps ake a drastic change in day-to-day life, maintaining physical and mental health. Besides, sports teaches everyone the most important thing in life is to digest defeat. That is why the sportsmanship of a good player is seen in social life even outside the field,” is how Commandant of the Army Sports Institute(ASI) Devraj Gill expressed his opinion after inaugurating the PERA ” Premier Championship at MIT ADT University.

The “PERA Premier Championship organized by Preeminent Education and Research Association (PERA) at MIT University of Art, Design and Technology, Vishwarajbagh, Pune. Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, Vice-Chancellor and Working President of MIT ADT University and President of “PERA”, Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopde, Director of Sports Department Padmakar Phad, Olympian Boxer Manoj Pingle, Dr. Gulzar Shaikh of Dr. P.A. Inamdar University, Popat Dhanve of MIT WPU and Dr. Atul Patil were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Karad said that Indiawas moving forward on all fronts under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Schemes like Khelo Bharat, Target Olympic Podium helped India complete a historic medal century at the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China recently. Inspired by that, through the “PERA” Championship, the private universities of the state came together and decided to organize this competition, which received a great response from as many as 35 universities, which has made the competition very successful. MIT group has always provided a great platform to the players to showcase their talent.

The program started with a rousing salutation by “MANET” band after the global peace prayer and lighting of the lamp. After that, the athletes conducted march-past under the leadership of the flag bearers of all the participating universities. More than 3,000 athletes from over 35 universities participated. They are going to put their skills to the test in various categories.
