Pune: Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy’s (NKBA) Purva Barve and Varun Kapur displayed good form as they clinched the Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles title at the Late Nandu Natekar Memorial Yonex Sunrise Maharashtra Senior State Open Championships Nagpur-2022.
In the Women’s Singles final, second seed Purva Barve was in control of the proceedings as she defeated top seed Neha Pandit 21-8, 21-15 to emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Singles final witnessed Varun Kapur defeating Darshan Pujari 21-14, 21-12 to walk home with the title.
Speaking about their performance Nikhil Kanetkar said “Varun and Purva winning the Senior Maharashtra State Championships was very heartening, especially after the long wait for tournaments. This will do a lot of good to their confidence for the future matches to come.”
Purva described this win as a confidence booster. “It feels good to win the state championships again. It’s my first win of this year so far. This tournament was definitely a confidence booster for me and I hope I can do better in my upcoming tournaments,” Purva said.
“I was having a lot of trouble with my back but I’m glad I could somehow push myself and win the title. I just focused on one match at a time and tried not to think about the pain which was bothering me,” she informed.
“I would like to thank Nikhil sir, Mayank sir, the whole NKBA team and my family. They all really helped me a lot in the past few weeks. Grateful to all of them,” Purva concluded.
Sharing his experience Varun said “This has been a learning experience for me. The win here has given me more inspiration to give my best in the tournaments to come. I would like to thank everyone at NKBA and my family for their support.”
