Pune: Subodh Lama missed scoring a possible hattrick when Akash More sneaked in with the third goal as Strikers FC blanked Ghorpadi Young Ones 4-0 in the second round match of the 21st guru Tegh Bahadur gold cup football tournament at the COEP ground in Shivajinagar here on Monday.
Both the teams failed to break the ice till the 20 minutes, but Subodh Lama came to life in the 25th minute when Anshuman Rawat gave a measured pass to Lama. Four minutes later Atharva Jadhav found Lama in the striking range and he made no mistake in making it 2-0.
On changing the ends,Akash More increased the lead to 3-0 when Aditya kamble gave a good pass in the 43rd minute. Vishal Kumar scored the final goal of the match when Milind Gaikwad set him up in the 48th minute.
In the last match of the day, Crescent FC rallied to edge out Extreme Warriors 3-2 to move into last 16 stage. Vivek Nath’s 19th minute goal through penalty had put Extreme Warriors 1-0 ahead, but Neel Nene equalised six minutes later for Crescent FC on a pass from Tanish Gaikwad. Soon after There was a frenzy of activity to take control of the ball in the half of Extreme Warriors and Crescent FC earned a spot kick, which Parth Supe converted without any hitch. On changing the ends Kaustubh Deshmukh fired in the winner on a pass from Sai Shinde in the 40th minute.
