Pune: National badminton player of yesteryears Sunil Handa has been elected President of the Poona Club Ltd at its General Body Meeting was held last week.
The AGM also elected the Vice-president and committee members, who will assist Mr Handa in running of one of the most prestigious clubs of Pune, which boasts of a cricket ground and several other sports infrastructures at its premises, including tennis, squash and cue sports.
The Club also has an 18-hole championship golf course, which has hosted many memorable tournaments. Mr Handa has been a regular face at the club and has been on the managing committee for years together. Mr Handa, who is into the business of solar generation and biogas has done commendable work over the years in improving the facilities at the club, which stood in good stead as the votes were polled by the members. Mr Handa received 1604 votes.
There were three candidates—Manish Dilip Mehta, Gaurav Gadhoke and Shashank Halbe contesting for the one post of Vice- President. Gaurav Gadhoke topped polling 1055 votes to become Vice-President.
Mr Gadhoke, who polled 1055 votes, is an avid golfer and a businessman operating in the road construction sector in the country.
Aditya Kanitkar, Pankaj R Shah, Amit Dinesh Parmar, Rohan V Pusalkar, Ms B Priya Jain and Abhishek V Bokey are the committee members.
