Lonavala, September 18, 2026: Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan has called for the preservation of traditional practices such as yoga for future generations, saying that yoga must remain relevant throughout the lifespan of humanity.
He was speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gordhandas Seksaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis, Kaivalyadhama, which marked 75 years of its contribution to yoga education, research and teacher training.
Emphasising the importance of balancing progress with the preservation of traditional knowledge, Radhakrishnan said, “All good practices of the past must be preserved for the future.” He added that yoga was not meant for just one generation but should continue to benefit humanity for generations to come.
The celebrations brought together Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, members of the Seksaria family, Kaivalyadhama leadership, faculty, students, alumni and well-wishers.
Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma described Kaivalyadhama as a source of national pride and stressed the need to preserve the authenticity and scientific foundations of yoga as the practice gains popularity globally. He said India has a responsibility to ensure that yoga taken to the world remains rooted in its original philosophy and tradition.
Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu highlighted Kaivalyadhama’s long-standing contribution and said its achievements stemmed from a fundamental commitment to service and human development.
The event also highlighted the historic association of the Seksaria family with the institution. Rakesh Seksaria recalled the contribution of his grandfather, the late Makhanalal Seksaria, who supported the establishment of the College in Lonavala in memory of his father, Gordhandas Seksaria.
He also acknowledged the pioneering work of Swami Kuvalayananda in bringing scientific research and modern education into the study of yoga. According to Seksaria, Swami Kuvalayananda’s systematic study of yoga’s impact on the human mind and body strongly influenced his grandfather’s decision to support the establishment of the College around 1949–1951.
Kaivalyadhama CEO Subodh Tiwari said the institution has built a global fraternity of students, with its alumni now teaching and practising yoga across more than 80 countries. He said the College aims to continue setting benchmarks in yoga education by combining the foundations of traditional yoga with scientific research.
The celebrations also saw the release of “Yoga Explained – Learn from the Master,” authored by Dr. O.P. Tiwari, Chairman, Kaivalyadhama.
Founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924 in Lonavala, Kaivalyadhama has been dedicated to the scientific study, education and practice of yoga. The Gordhandas Seksaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis, established in 1951, has since trained generations of yoga teachers, scholars and practitioners, strengthening the institution’s role in carrying India’s yoga tradition to audiences across the world.
